We've said it before, and we'll say it again, the key to a properly running diesel is to shove as much cool, dense air into the engine as it will take (within reason, of course). And that's why running an aftermarket performance intercooler can be so advantageous, especially after tuning and bigger injectors are installed. These things are great for delivering more horsepower through additional fueling, advanced timing, engine mapping, etc., but it's still not getting that much additional airflow into the engine.
