While it's true that Allison-equipped applications are designed to downshift once the Tow/Haul button is depressed, the engine can easily over-rev and not slow you down-which is why the BD Brake should be considered a necessity. Like the other exhaust brakes in the BD Brake family, the BD Brake for the Duramax uses BD's exclusive Variable Orifice Technology, which provides peak retarding power throughout the engine's rpm range-not just at high rpm like other brands. The rugged, cast-iron housing incorporates BD's exclusive AlumiBronze bushing and piston ring-sealed, stainless steel butterfly shaft that has proven to stand up under the harsh, high-heat conditions of the exhaust environment. Actuated by an on board air compressor and air cylinder, the BD Brake applies factory-approved exhaust backpressure that is self-regulating; once pressure reaches the factory specification, the butterfly position changes to maintain the highest pressure possible. And thanks to the large four-inch casting, exhaust flow is not restricted when the butterfly valve is in the open position.

A lighted, dash-mounted toggle switch activates the brake immediately, while flipping off the switch or applying the service brakes causes the brake to release just as quickly. The BD Brake for the Duramax comes complete with all necessary mounting hardware and complete instructions.
